Gundam 00!

Gundam EXIAIt’s been a while since I mentioned anything relating to the Gundam universe. This post was sparked by my recent discovery of the latest Gundam series being aired in Japan as we speak. Titled Gundam 00, this series differs from the numerous other stories in the fact that it is set in the AD timeline (our own). Previous Gundam stories have followed alternate timelines, such as Gundam Wing’s After Colony (AC) and Gundam SEED’s Cosmic Era (CE).

I’ve only seen the first 6 episodes at the moment (I have another 3 queued up to watch tonight), and so far the story seems to be following the generic: power struggle between two or more major organisations — Gundams intervene — controversial usage of using violence to end all violence, fight fire with fire, etc etc etc. The main character is an obligatory moody, introverted and mysterious guy named Setsuna F. Seiei. If more than 3 words escape his mouth in an episode, be surprised. This series is hinting towards the fact that it might be following in SEED’s footsteps with the idea of genetically engineered super-soldiers (original, eh?) being used to defeat the Gundam Pilots, but there’s more! There were hints in the last episode that the Gundam Pilots themselves are genetically engineered super-soldiers! DUHN DUHN DUUUUHN!! Like I said, story isn’t a strong point here.

But I think all Gundam fans know that what is important is the kick ass Mecha. And this series doesn’t let up on the kick ass Mecha. Lots of kick ass Mecha here.

Anyway. I might have previously mentioned that I bought the Perfect Grade Strike Gundam model kit from Bandai a while ago, and had much fun assembling it. Here’s a pic:

Strike Gundam

And all this talk and watching of Gundam spurred me on to expand my model collection. So I went out and bought the Perfect Grade Skygrasper kit with the Aile Striker add on for the Strike Gundam :D . Win! And to complement that, I bought the High Grade Archangel kit. The Archangel claims to require glue and paint, which most other kits don’t, bring the model closer to the Warhammer 40,000 miniatures I also collect.

So that should keep me pretty busy for the next few weeks.

Gundam Pics And A Good Day

[unrelated to main post]
Normally, I would reply. But I’ve already said everything I needed to say.

So here are some pics of my Gundam Model. I didn’t really time how long it took to build, but I can estimate around 6 hours. It was really fun :)
They can be found here!

Today really was a good day :). Apart from the fact that I didn’t sleep well last night since it was too warm…
Got into Uni and handed in both my assignments that were due in today and had a good laugh with Truman, Bean and Will while fighting with shatter resistant rulers! (I have battle scars!) Peter Timothy didn’t seem to bat an eye lid to the fact that we were completely ignoring his practical class.
Upon entering the outside world after Uni, I found the weather to my liking, nice and warm, with little breeze and plenty of sunshine. Will and I went into town and met up with Sofie, Helen and Morwenna (two of Sof’s friends from Uni). Helen and Morwenna are cool :D !
Something weird was going on in town… Gwent Square was filled with tents and stalls selling food, jewelery and merchandise. I asked what was going on only to receive the answer “It’s the French!” … whatever that meant … lol.
Helen managed to get a bargain at Silverscreen and got the complete box set of Jonathan Creek, which we watched bits of when we went back to mine to chill.
Will had to leave after a while due to ‘missus’ trouble. Not sure what went on there really… But after that, we all ordered curry from the curry house about 2 seconds away from my house and got a free bottle of wine! Win!
Then we took Helen and Morwenna home and now I’m knackered. But I enjoyed myself and that’s what counts :)

I’m also in balance with some arrangements to go shooting with Dan and Yin again on Sunday - weather permitting. We went about 3 weeks ago, and when we got half way up the mountain, it started to rain that really fine kinda misty spray-ish stuff…. the stuff that soaks you through in about 2 seconds. We decided to make the most of it instead of going back, and it ended up being pretty fun. More of a hike than a shooting though. My pellets seem a bit tarnished now as well, but they still fire alright.
Hopefully, if the weather holds out, we’ll be able to get some content to shove on Teh Shootz. We made that site in anticipation for last fortnights shooting arrangement, but we decided against braving the rain for a second time.

iMac, Gundam and… Dave.

So, my iMac arrived Tuesday, along with my Gundam Freedom model. You can probably guess I was rather happy. I’ve been waiting a god-damned month for the Gundam.

I was actually quite impressed with the size of the iMac, it’s really bigger than I expected it to be, but still a hell of a lot less cumbersome than any PC. I unhooked my PC almost instantly when my iMac got here. Set it up, and its been working like a dream. My internet connection suffered a bit though with the amount of updates and patches I had to download. It actually feels good not to be rebooting every 5 mins.
My PC wouldn’t stay stable for long enough for me to transfer anything over the network, so that took a long while too. About 30 gigs of video and music. Although I think it’s done now. I haven’t touched my PC since I’ve had my iMac, so there’s obviously no reason to keep it. Let the auctions begin!

You might notice I’m being a bit possessive here. You know, my iMac and my Gundam. I’m just playing off something I read on Dave’s blog.
You see, a while ago, I stopped using MSN messenger, in favour of xfire, which in my opinion is better. Unfortunately, there’s no native support for Xfire on OSX, so I signed back in to MSN messenger. My display name mentioned the fact that I now own an iMac, and such, and Dave - being the kind of guy he is - just assumed I only logged on to MSN to brag about my latest purchase, because it appeared that way. He didn’t think to ask me, he didn’t really care for facts. He just writes it on his blog for the world to see, and makes me look like I was trying to rub his nose in it or something. Fair enough, it’s his blog, he can write what he likes. But when it comes to writing about someone else, I’d rather he get his facts straight before doing so. I dunno if he reads my blog.
The fact of the matter is that I didn’t sign in to MSN messenger just to let him know I’d gone and bought myself an iMac. No, I signed into MSN messenger because my preffered method of communcation with my friends was consequently unavailable. Who gives a fuck if I own an iMac but me? Why should it matter to him that I bought an iMac, why would it matter to him that I buy anything? The reason I put things like that in my display name is because I am happy with my purchase and I like to let people know I’m happy. It’s not like I personally messaged him and said “hey, guess what, I have an iMac, nya nya nya nya nya”. Not one of my friends has batted an eye at my display name. In fact, two or three of them were actually quite interested in seeing the iMac and the Gundam.

I can’t help but think that this is all related to the fateful morning when I didn’t pick up a can or two. ‘Cuz you know… it’s a crime not to pick up a can or two, but letting someone else clean up your own vomit bare handed from a sink full of dishes is fine. No problems there.

Btw, I’ll post some pics up of my Gundam and my iMac as soon as I’ve obtained a copy of Photoshop.

The Shuttle Flies!

Or at least it would have - into a wall! !¬_¬

After testing my RAM and CPU extensively in Richard’s motherboard, I came to the conclusion that my RAM and CPU are fine. how did I come to this conclusion? Well lets just say that my RAM and CPU were multitasking more than women boast they can multitask. And they did so for about 20 mins without any crashing. Whereas in my system, there would have been a lock up, a reboot, a blue screen, a crash - anything that would denote the computer stopping for an unknown reason.

I finally RMA’d the Shuttle and its motherboard this morning, hopefully, to get a working replacement and see an end to the never ending crashes… *Sigh*, its just getting silly now.
You see… if I primarily used a mac, I WOULDN’T BE IN THIS MESS!

In other news, I’ve been getting in a flap about this Gundam Model which I purchased from ebay. According to my PayPal account, payement for the item cleared on the 27th of March. The listing stated that shipping from Honk Kong to the UK would take between 5 - 10 days via Air. “Fair enough”, I thought, £32.99 for Air shipping from China in 5 - 10 days sounded reasonable to me… Now on the 18th of April, 22 days after payment has cleared, I have received NO items. Read that. None, Nil, Zilth, Squat, Nada, Nothing. I have e-mailed this so called ‘Edwin Mak’ twice in the last 22 days and not gotten any response. I know for a fact that he’s there! Where ever ‘there’ is. He left feedback for one of his customers last night at 20:08, so he’s obviously at a computer with access to ebay! Why doesn’t he respond to my e-mails?
I checked his feedback scores, and they are a source of considerably high praise, a lot of people happy with their items, so he’s not a full time scammer at least. I’m going to give it about 2 or 3 more days and probably one more e-mail attempt before I file a complaint against his ass on ebay.
I did try to make a complaint earlier today, but PayPal was being gay. I also noticed a small bit of information that I missed - it said “Funds transferred from Bank Account - Cleared 27th of March 2006″ - Damn right, I thought. Then below that, it read, “Payment sent for ebay auction - cleared 6th of April 2006″ - WTF?!, I thought. So it looks to me as full clearage of paymentables to concerned ebay partakers, only occured on the 6th of April - which is bullshit in my opinion. I clicked the “Buy now” button on the 20th of March, assuming that “Buy now” meant now. As in now - the present moment. But not according to ebay. Nope, it has to transferr the money from the bank which takes a week (fucking pathetic), then it takes another week to send the freaking payment to the person you bought it from. Can you imagine standing in a queue at a shop ready to pay for a game or something, and it taking TWO FUCKING WEEKS to hand some money to the guy and for him to put it in the till? Where would the world be of that happened? I’ll tell you where it would be - 20 fucking years in the future and everyone will still only have bought one thing. Argh, rant.
Anyway, I digress. Even with the most recent discovery, if the payment cleared on the April 6th, that still means that today was the 10th day of the expected delivery date. Add that to the fact that he still hasn’t even bothered to contact me after I’ve e-mailed him twice (they were polite e-mails, I didn’t shout at the fucker…. yet) and I still have grounds for concern about where my money has gone and when the fuck I’ll be getting my Gundam, if ever!

Scan Lied To Me!

I tell you, they lied! I sent the RAM back for RMA and they told me that it’s fine because it passed MemTest86 5 times. That’s not a valid test. 5 tests is what…? an hour? Less than that? The RAM should be tested over a prolonged period of time. MemTest is a controlled environment with repeated test - the faulty part of the ram could very easily be skipped if the same tests are run over and over. You need a random, real - world environment to call it a fair test. Someone on Pro-Net agreed with me and says he also wouldn’t accept that as a valid test. Idiots. Scan accused me of having a faulty system that the RAM is incompatible with… Know what I say to that? It’s a very simple equation:

Faulty RAM + PC = Instable
PC - Faulty RAM = Stable

I ran Memtest, I ran SuperPi Mod, I ran Prime95 (ON TORTURE TEST CONDITIONS), I ran 3dMark 05, 06, PCMark 04, 05, Quake 4, WoW, FEAR — EVERYTHING on my system ran perfectly. Albeit a bit slowly because of the significant reduction in the amount of available memory. ¬_¬

It’s being sent back free of charge - which probably means via Royal Mail with no insurance, no tracking code, and minimum protection. I’m angry. See me roar… rawr.

In other news, my Gundam Model payment has cleared so that should get here in about a million years… See the sarcasm? I wonder what kind of Customs Charges I’m going to have to face…. damn Chinese…

Augh, life is a pain in the proverbial arse.
