AAAAAAAHAHAHAHA

Best interpretation evar!

I’m Baaaaack!

What film is that from? Anyway.

I’m back from London - back in the house of choas. I didn’t get a chance to sit down for an hour when I got back. I had to feed cats and dogs, tidy things, interrogate people, fight in a war… I even broke into the FBI’s Mega Mainframe and stole the secret documents, before being chased through some catacombs with a shotgun.
… No I didn’t.

But seriously, it was good to see Sof again - really good :) . Also, her flat mates rock - they’re the craziest bunch of people I’ve met in a long time, and really fun to be around.
We played hide and seek in 5 bedroom flat with about 8 people. Thats how crazy these people are.

HazMat GuySof and I went to Oxford Circus on Saturday, with intent to visit the Apple Store. Upon arriving at the Apple Store we were greeted by people wearing HazMat Suits. As you can see in the picture to your left, they looked like knob ends, to say the least.
They were handing out leaflets explaining that Apple, iPods and the DRM act are bad, evil things that should be avoided. And they were standing outside a Store owned by a company that is currently leading the Digital Music Industry with the iPod and the iTunes Music Store. Some would argue that this method would be the most sensible since it would allow you to reach a larger number of the type of people you wish to change. But my opinion is that since not many people live in Oxford Circus (at least not hobo’s), they would have to make a trip to the Apple Store which would probably cost them around £5 - £10 in underground fares. Not to mention the effort of dodging your was past all the people in Oxford Circus to actually get to your destination. The people who eventually arrive at the Apple Store with an intention to buy an iPod aren’t going to be easily swayed by a leaflet. At least my thought would be - “What the fuck are you wearing, you sad act?. Get out of my way I came here to buy an iPod and so help me God, no-one will stop me.”. Thats what I would be thinking. London is a death trap if you don’t keep your wits about you, and I can guarrantee you that many of those people pelting through the streets of Oxford Circus are either:

  • Highly strung from the stress of shopping, or
  • On short teathers from the stress of travelling

So basically, if you were to annoy these people you’re likely to be stabbed or mugged or raped… Yes - in broad daylight. Especially if you’re dressed in a HazMat suit. An iPod isn’t going to give you radiation poisoning, is it? In fact, you’re more likely to get radiation poisoning from wearing that HazMat suit that has probably been worn at Chernobyl or that place in North Wales, and then hired out to you.
And to support my case even further, those HazMat gays obviously weren’t making an impact since I was stood in a queue for about 20 mins waiting to make my purchases - and the people in front of me were purchasing iPods. After a while though, one of the Apple guys kindly reminded us that there were a set of tills upstairs with virtually no queue, so we moved up there.

Anyway. The other thing I wanted to say regarding the Apple Store was - “OMFG DROOOOOOL DUAL 30″ HD CINEMA DISPLAYS GIB!”. 60″ of Apple beauty. It was the stuff of which dreams are weaved. And on a slightly worse note - Adobe Creative Suite 2 - £1,250. Ouch.
And the final thing - which I forgot to do - was take a picture of the bloody wall lined with shelves filled with games for the Mac. ManyManyMacGamesForME!

Erm… Yeah. I still haven’t made a second attempt at putting Linux on my Macbook Pro. I have the partition ready, and I have Windows installed and running (even if it does keep setting my system clock a hour fast… damn Windows). I think I’ll be trying Suse Enterprise Desktop Linux 10 this time - it says it has XGL preinstalled and preconfigured - but whether or not it’ll detect and support my Macbook Pro’s ATI X1600 is another matter. I’ll just have to give it a try.

And I don’t think I’ve mentioned this in my blog, but my iMac was experiencing trouble where it wouldn’t restart or shutdown when instructed to. Well, I’ve fixed it now. I spent a while trawling through the logs trying to find the source of the problem, and it looks like it was something to do with a .kext module that was the system was trying to unload that didn’t exist. So I cleaned that up and the next thing in the log was something to do with the Airport card. I couldn’t find anything wrong with it, but it keeps saying in the log that it prevented a certain service from running to avoid a system crash due to 192.168.8.100 being a defective DNS relay. For those that don’t know, 192.168.8.100 is NTL’s secondary DNS server. Now if you ask me that seems more like NTL’s fault that my iMac’s, and could possbily be the road to enlightenment on why my connection to the internet is plagued with dropouts and periodic disconnects.
Although, setting the iMac’s network configuration to get the network details by DHCP with a manually assigned IP address fixes the restart/shutdown problem - although the entry in the system.log still appears about the deffective DNS relay. It’s strange and I think I’ll have to call NTL about it.

And finally - OMFG LOST SERIES 3 ON WEDNESDAY - BUT I PROBABLY WON’T BE ABLE TO WATCH IT UNTIL THURSDAY WHEN IT’S AVAILABLE ON THE TORRENT!!!! Ahem. Yeah, Lost Season 3 is going to pwn.

Bad Twin, CAD vs PVP and Some Other Stuff…

So my book arrived - a little later than what I would have expected, but it’s here nonetheless.
So far there has been only one reference to the Hanso Foundation in the book, and it was brief, nondescript, and in no way linked to the story of the book at all. But I am only about half way through, so hopefully they will play a bigger, more related role in the story in the later half.
But apart from that fact, the book is rather good. I’m beginning to develop the idea that it was not Stephen King who wrote the novel, but rather the other, female, author that was mentioned at Lostpedia. I forget her name.

Anyway, those of you who read PVP Online.com might have noticed that its author, Scott has been taking the complete piss out of Tim over at Ctrl-Alt-Del because of CAD’s Animated Series subscription service. I felt that he was being unfair, since, in my eyes, Tim has done everything exactly right. He’s pleasing an audience, and making money at the same time. I sent Scott an e-mail telling him what I thought, and got a reply that basically said: “I’m a satirist… Thats what I do”. What a pathetic excuse. He’s clearly just jealous that Tim had a good idea, and he’s being completely ironic by imitating the idea with his so called Blaminations… (I hate that word…)

So, Uni has ended - for this academic year anyway. What is an academic year? It’s not a year. Its like… 5 months. Not even half a year. Stupid name…
Not been doing much with my time off so far though, been playing WoW a lot, messing around with some Cocoa programming, going swimming in awesome, indoor heated swimming pools (courtesy of Sofie’s friend Max)… etc etc etc.

Not long until Ragnarok III - The LAN Party of The House of Richard! That should be awesome…
Before I forget, Happy birthday Will, you Son Of Satan, you. I mean, seriously, 06/06/06 ? :P the date in itself is a bit ominous… And the Omen is meant to be out today too. Can’t say the trailer for that film inspired me to pay money to see it… O.o.

Anyway, this is for you Will:
666!
Anything else?… I dunno, I might start blogging about my WoW endeavours - but I’m reluctant to because the Dave might get all emo about the fact that he does it so I must instantly be copying him.
I have taken some screenshots of my kit and stuff, and was thinking about putting up one of them replicas of the Character window in-game like all those sites do. You know the ones - where you mouse over the item and it shows the stats, just like the game itself does.

Another nice idea would be to have an XML feed from my Loot Link addon to be able to display on here - but I’m not sure if its feasable to have an XML feed come from the game. Meh.

I’d better stop talking about WoW or the Dave will come and emo on me or something.

Upgrade & New Theme

Hope you like the new theme.
If you didn’t guess, the image in the background is from Gundam SEED… God I love that anime.

Anywho, this theme threw up a lot of errors after I edited it to suit my needs, and the only thing that fixed it was to updgrade my Wordpress install, so I did. And to be honest, I quite like the new Admin Interface - especially the features in the Write section.

Not a lot has happened recently, Uni has finished, as have all my exams, which means I now have roughly three and a half months off until I have to go back in Sept. Which is nice :P .

Lost has finished too - which isn’t nice, because now I have to wait until Sept for season 3 of that too :( . The season 2 finale was awesome though. The best episode in the whole two seasons. I say ‘episode’, but it was really a double episode. Fantastic. My book still hasn’t arrived… I don’t know what it is with me and buying things from overseas. Damn foreigners. Can’t get anything right!

It’s been nearly a month now since I gave Windows the boot, and I couldn’t be happier. The only time I’ve had to use Windows since I bought my iMac was when I was at Sof’s and I had to use my laptop - which I will be selling soon to buy a lurvely, sexy Macbook. I don’t think I’ll buy a black one - the extra cost doesn’t justify the result. I know it comes with an extra 20gig of hard disk space as well, but seriously, £130+ just for some black plastic and 20gigs of space? Nahh….
It’s not the same as the iPod Nano - they didn’t charge extra for a black one of them…

Anyway, if anyone wants a laptop, I have one for sale:

AMD Athlon64 3000+ (2.4ghz if I recall correctly)
512mb DDR266
80gb hard drive (5200 rpm)
nVidia Geforce FX go5700 (64mb)
15.4″ Wide Screen (1280×800)
DVD-R/RW±
Battery life approx 1.5 - 2 hours (depending on usage)

If you or anyone you know is interested or has any questions, drop me a line, and I’ll get back to you.

Comment Spam!

There seems to be some *expletive deleted* knob-end (or a program written by a knob-end) going around and spamming my blog with comments. Look here. I will say this once. I will say it only once.

I AM NOT INTERESTED IN ANYTHING YOU HAVE TO OFFER ME!

is that clear? No viagra, no poker, no free virus scans, no PC health checks, no free organic food diet supplements. Got it? Now fuck off.

Ahem!
In other news, LOST is nearing the end of its second season and I simply can’t wait for next weeks two-hour special season finale! I have never been so engrossed in a TV series like this. I’m afraid to say anything about the show incase someone who is watching Lost reads this and is only following it on UK times. I’ve been watching it with the ‘Mericans, since season two didn’t start until May over here. Season two started in the USA, just as season one was finishing in the UK.

I’ve ordered the novel Bad Twin, written by an author (supsected to be either Stephen King or another author I forgot the name of) ghosting as Gary Troup. Bad Twin was the manuscript Sawyer was reading in Lost (I don’t think that counts as a spoiler because it’s not elaborate enough). It’s part of the background reading material for the Lost Experience alternate reality game. Very fun, very interesting and totally Lost related :P .

Oh by the way, if you don’t want any spoilers, don’t visit the site I linked to up there. Spoiler heaven if you’re not current with USA Lost. Anyway - three words and an exclamation mark - BEST SERIES EVER!

{sings}
I love my Mac! ‘Cuz it’s so dependable, so sensible, so beautiful!
{/sings}

Seriously, I haven’t used Windows for longer than five minutes since I bought this hunk of sexy Apple-product. I’ve already managed to get the games I play most running on it without having to go out and buy physical Mac copies. Except Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne. But that doesn’t count anyway, because I never owned them in the first place, and the Mac version comes with the PC version on the same discs anyway, like WoW. And Diablo. And Every other Blizzard game. Lol.

Finally, if anyone is interested, I have an AMD Athlon64 FX-57 (2.8ghz) for sale. E-mail me if you’re interested and I’ll see what I can do. Failing that, I’m gonna eBay it anyway. There’s also 1gb of Corsair PC4400, 2.5-3-3-8 overclockers RAM, an MSI-K8N SLI Platinum motherboard, a Lite-on DVD-RW± drive and a 485W Enermax Power Supply Unit. So yeah - if no-one wants them - eBay.
(If you’re wondering what happened to the 7800 GTX… Well I’m still saving that for Rich, but if he doesn’t want it then that’s going to get eBay’d too.)
