London Baby!

So, I went to London again with Sof for a week before she went back to Uni. This time was a little different though, since Rich also came to see his girly too.
The week was packed with trips into London, the Apple Store, Camden, laughter at pigeons, drunken debauchery and playing the Wii.
The weather held up pretty nice, making the trips pleasant. Although I ran out of money about half way through the week… heh. :P

In keeping with my philosophy of having to buy something whenever I visit the Apple store (and taking into account my lack of cash) I bought the Mac version of Age of Empires III. The game itself is great, it works well and is fast. The only problem is that the development team who ported it must have been the laziest team in the world. They didn’t port any of the ESO multiplayer capability. Instead they just pushed all the weight onto a third party service called GameRanger. That means that multiplayer games can only be between Macs, and not Mac-PC… which is why I bought the game in the first place.
I can’t think of any game ported to Mac that doesn’t allow multiplayer across platforms. Wc3, Quake4, W:ET all do. Why can’t AOE3?

It’s hard to support the Mac Gamer community when it keeps ass-raping itself like this.

So anyway, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard has been pushed back until October. I kind of have have mixed opinions on this. On the one hand, I’m glad because that gives me more time to save up some money and be able to buy a Mac Pro when Leopard is released. On the other, I’m disappointed because it was so hyped up and Apple kept saying it was on schedule and would be released in June alongside the iPhone.
But I did read a comic that made me laugh: It stated various reasons for Leopards delay, but the penultimate reason was: “Vista still sucks guys, there’s no need to rush”. :D

In the land of the Wii, I’ve been playing the new Dragonball Z game (courtesy of Rich) and it is absolutely awesome! I think it’s one of the games on the Wii that takes advantage of the WiiMote more than other games do in the fact that it’s not just gimmicky, little mini-games that use the WiiMote like you would in a sport etc. One of the things that I found awesome was that to perform a Ka-me-ha-me-ha you have to do it yourself with the WiiMote! :D
I’ll be buying that game soon enough.

Finally, as a short side note: We need to go shooting again - the weather is perfect.

One Month Later

Ouch, a month between posts.

So anyway, Uni is back on track again. After more than a month of Christmas holidays. Doesn’t feel any different to be back to be honest, hehe.
This semester seems to have put programming on the back burner, which in my opinion, sucks. However we’re now doing a module titled Operating Systems, which includes som bash scripting, so I won’t be completely alienated from the world of coding.

Although saying that, I don’t think I’ll ever be alienated from the world of coding. If you’ve been checking up over at the XBlaze site, you’ll see I’ve been rather busy. It’s taken a while, but I think I’ve developed a strong enough grip on Cocoa and Objective-C to be able to start producing things with it. Even if most of the code there was written by Kainjow, I’ve implemented features that weren’t there, and even instigated an update of XfireLib to handle real-time nickname updating. Me == proud();

So anyway… I have a Wii! And it is extremely awesome! At the moment I only have three games, but it’s been enough to keep me entertained for long enough. Despite the fact that all my Gamecube games work with it as well.
The WiiMote has to be one of the most innovative technologies I’ve used for a long long while. It’s so intuitive. Just point… and flail… and play!
Twilight Princess is a very good game. I still haven’t completed it yet, but so far it’s proving its worth. I don’t think that the WiiMote makes the game any more special and I think that’s intentional, considering the game is also available for the Gamecube. Simple actions like attacking with your sword, which previously would have been tedious button pressing, have now been replaced by a swing of the WiiMote.
WiiSports, on the other hand, utilises the WiiMote to a much fuller potential. Tennis is possibly the best WiiSports game. Some might say “it feels nothing like playing real tennis”. And my response to that is: Well it’s not real tennis is it?! It’s Wii Tennis! Noobs.

Another thing about the Wii that has kept my entertained for hours is the fact that you can create your own little avatars called Miis. You can make a Mii to look like anyone you want - make one for yourself, your friends, even Hitler, Saddam and Ghandi! Yes, that’s right, I made Hitler, Saddam and Ghandi Mii’s. I also made a Jesus Wii. Begin the onslaught of angry e-mails! :D
I was filled with a sense of accomplishment when Bean said he turned his Wii on to find that Hitler, Ghandi and Saddam had just decided to migrate to his Wii! Go forth and reproduce!

Great fun… :D
